I have several work trips coming up, all of which require business attire. Gray Suits, black pencil skirts, nude heels, subdued blouses. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Could you tell I’m a bit bored with these options? So, instead of complaining or otherwise fitting into the status quo, I decided I am going to spice up my existing work wardrobe with some memorable pieces… in the form of neon blazers. Now of course, this look isn’t always completely fitting in front of potential clients but for more casual business meetings, conferences, or exhibit halls, I could think of nothing better to add fun and exciting polish to your work ensembles.
The important part of adding neon or bright blazers to a work outfit is making sure the rest of your clothes are neutral. For instance, a pink blazer would work with khaki-colored wide leg trousers, an eggshell silk blouse, and nude (or a complementary color if you dare) patent leather pumps. Or with black pants, perhaps try a kelly green blazer and a white polka dot blouse.
Take a look at some of my favorite neon toppers at different price points – this is bound to be a HUGE trend for Spring/Summer 2012 so start shopping early:
Long Collar Blazer in Hot Pink, Forever 21 $29.80
Rebecca Minkoff Becky Jacket (in Teal, Orange, Fuchsia – SO many options), Singer22.com $348
Gibson Linen One-Button Blazer in Kelly Green, Nordstrom $88
Vince Camuto Single Button Blazer in Yellow Blaze, Nordstrom $165
Stella McCartney Single Breasted Blazer in Orange, Farfetch.com $1420
The great thing about these pieces is that they can easily take you from work to happy hour, a date, or out with your girlfriends! Is this a trend you’ll be trying? Check out Lauren’s favorite blazers here, too.
