Put On Your Best Birthday Face

14Mar12

While every day presents an opportunity to play with new makeup ideas and techniques, for some reason birthday makeup always makes me most giddy. I’m a complete sucker for a great smokey eye look. Last year, Cher gave me a Kim Kardashian inspired brown smokey eye look using Urban Decay’s NAKED palette. What a stunner!

But this year, my obsession revolves around something more daring, something more bold, something more… smoldering.

Meet your new birthday sidekick, Sephora’s “Smoke Goes Rogue” eye. My love for this look can’t really be put into words. I love the pigmentation, depth and straight up balls this look offers.

Here’s the tutorial (from sephora.com) on how to get this look. Be sure to check out their site to get your full list of needed goods, plus a little something extra for yourself, Birthday Girl!

STEP 1: PREP
Pat eye cream along browbones and undereye areas.

STEP 2: PRIME
Smooth a dab of eye primer over lids.

STEP 3: COLOR
Using a creamy shadow pencil or your finger to spread cream shadow, fill in entire lid, taking care to add a thick sweep of color along the top and bottom lash lines, too.

STEP 4: SMOKE
Blend shadow into the creases and beyond with the SEPHORA COLLECTION Pro Natural Smudge Brush #11. Color should be darkest at the lash lines and diffused out. Spread with your fingers, smudging for a smooth, smoky effect.

STEP 5: FINISH
Curl lashes and finish with two to three coats of mascara.

Make this look your own- add some glitter on top for a little extra sparkle (this one is my fave), try this look with neon pinks or purples or up the drama with a bold, red lip. Do what makes you feel most gorge on your special day!
