Spring Ahead in your Current Wardrobe- Leather Edition

19Mar12

Just one more day until we’re officially in Spring! New England the last few weeks has given us a small glimpse as to what’s ahead this Printemps season: 65 degree days, sunshine and the dreaded spiders (cringe, shutter, skeeve). Each new season brings on the urge to splurge. But before you whip out that plastic, think about what you already have in your closet to propel you into this season. If you need a little help figuring out how to transition your pieces, fear not… that is this week’s mission!

Today we’re starting with a piece we both live, breathe and die for – leather shorts.

Your existing piece:

River Island Faux Leather Shorts, was $53.72, now $32.23

Lauren’s tips on how to Spring ahead in leather shorts

Item 1: A Peasant Blouse

I always gravitate towards white, sheer, flowy tops as the temp rises. They go with anything, especially some rockin’ leather shorts. I love the combo of textures!

Double Peplum Hem Blouse, $49.50

Item 2: Ultra fem Cardigan

Not only is the shape on this cardigan super girly but it mixes two of my fave spring trends- nautical and florals. This piece atop leather shorts is like chocolate dip on banana ice cream, an absolute must!

Australe Cardigan, $118

Item 3: Light weight plaid button down

Saturated colors, like the cognac brown of these leather shorts, calls for a light weight and lightly colored top to make the piece’s transition successful. I love anything and everything plaid. What I adore most about this print- super versatile depending upon the color!

Women’s Plaid Gauze Shirts, was $24.94, now $15

Cher’s tips on how to Spring ahead in leather shorts

Item 1: Chambray Shirt

I love the idea of pairing powerful leather shorts with something a bit more relaxed – like a chambray shirt. Tuck it in and pair with booties or sandals, depending on the weather. How adorable!

BDG Chambray Button-Down Shirt, $59

Item 2: Chunky, Cropped Knit

I would DIE to own this sweater (Who doesn’t love 3.1 Phillip Lim?! Of course, there are more affordable options out there, too.). It’s perfect for anytime of year, and works with skirts, pants, over dresses.. and yes, even leather shorts! Layer it over a silk tank in a bright color and you have a perfect day or night outfit!

3.1 Phillip Lim Open Stitched Cropped Sweater, $475

Item 3: Suede Booties

Spring is the perfect time to wear out your suede booties, if you haven’t already yet! They work in the spring time with shorts or skirts to perfectly take transition pieces from winter to spring.

Madden Girl Kullenn Wedge Bootie, $49.95

  1. Ah I love all these ideas! I’m actually one of the 3 people in the world who doesn’t own (p)leather shorts — I’ve been debating the procurement of same for a while — but now I am all about it! Mixing textures is so much fun; I just bought a pair of Sam Edelman black suede & wood wedges and they would look super fun with pleather shorts, now that I think of it!
